How was The Rokeby School started?

Rokeby School grew out of a desire to have a grassroots art education model that provides young artists with strategies for advancing their burgeoning practices. After meeting while studying visual art at the USC MFA program, Gabriel Garza and Calvin Miceli-Nelson launched the project in 2025 taking on a single class of 10 students in the garden of Gabriel Garza’s home. Both Calvin and Gabriel grew up in Los Angeles. Calvin is an alumni from Windward High School and Gabriel is an alumni from Pilgrim High School.
